Fall riding by Mr Jim
Reading Jake’s article in last month’s newsletter brought back memories of fall rides that Miss Donna and I have taken, the people that we have met. I love riding in the fall, the rainbow of colors and the crisp air are some of the best things in life. That means sometimes you get wet and cold, but still there can be good memories anyway.
The thing about riding in the fall is you have to go prepared. It could be a comfortable 70 when you leave but the temperature could drop as much as 25 degrees by night fall. This can be difficult for bikes that don’t have saddle bags. To many people believe that they will be back in before night fall, but it took longer to get where they were going or spent more time sightseeing and now it is getting late and the temperature is dropping like a lead balloon. It only takes a couple of minutes of thought to plan ahead and be prepared. This may mean that you are a little warm because you have to dress warmer than the weather is at the time you leave. Better that than trying to get home in the cold with no leather or gloves. Because some people never learn I will sometimes carry extra gloves and a sweatshirt.
Even though the weather is cold at times some of the most picturesque scenery is in the fall so get out there and enjoy the colors and beauty of the season. I will be!!!
