Cool & Quick By: Jan Knobbe

I’ve used many aftermarket parts over the span of thirty plus years (twenty personal and almost ten here at Chariots of Fire Customs LLC).  Vendors from Accutronix to Zipper products.  What I have found to be most innovative and helpful for large displacement motors in the bagger/touring class is the extra capacity oil pan.  The other product is the Direct Drive 7 speed transmissions (DD7).

I like the extra capacity oil pan first because it can cool oil temperatures up to 20 degrees cooler than the OEM oil pans.  Second, the transmission can drop 400 rpms out of the top end.  This helps to alleviate high temperatures from large displacement motors turning high rpms at highway speeds.  They can still be mean as hell on the bottom end or stop light to stop light.  I personally have installed oil pans on my bikes to get rid of high oil temperatures.  My previous bike, the 2003 Road King 95 cubic inch touring bike came with no oil cooler, so I added a Baker Drive Train oil pan.  My current ride, 2013 Road Glide 103HO engine comes with the oil cooler, but after several months of riding I found that the motor still got very hot.

Since I installed the turbo with cam work and head work to the Road Glide, it has definitely increased the problem with heat.  Just ask the wife.  Reine likes the acceleration and power like I do, but the heat needed to go.  So, once again, I turned to Baker products and found a 5.5 quart oil pan to replace the stock set up which holds 4 quarts.  The 5.5 quart oil pan was designed by the best engeneers at Baker.  This oil pan channels the hot engine exit oil to the rear of the oil pan therefore the pickup oil to the motor has more time to cool.  Thanks to Baker, the oil pan does exactly what it is advertised to do.  It cools my 2013 Road Glide 103OH turbo charged motor with no problem.  My Road Glide puts out lots of horse power/torque.  Much more than stock motors.  Yes, the bike has been dynode and yes it is fast!  Come by and let me show you the bike and the numbers it produces.

We are here for all your bike and horsepower needs.  Don’t hesitate to ask questions.  We build many motors and we run two drag bikes.  No matter if you have the weekend touring bike or the weekend warrior, we can help; everything from 80 inch sportsters to 140 inch baggers, superchargers, or turbos.  We can.
