Favorite Rides by Reine Knobbe
As mentioned in last months newsletter, I would like to start adding an article mid-month during riding season of our favorite rides. My hope is that you, our customers, will start sending your pictures and a short description of your favorite ride. It does not have to be local. It can be in another state, or country for that matter! There are so many roads to take. Let’s share our favorite rides so others can enjoy them also.
I am going to start out with a challenge. I absolutely LOVE the first few weeks of spring when all the red bud and dog wood trees are in bloom. The Missouri Conservation Magazine, April 2013 issue, listed eight routes to take a drive on to enjoy the dogwood splendor. Pick one, take a ride, and take pictures and report back. Send your description of the ride and a picture or two to: [email protected]
The routes are as follows:
- Highway 19 between MontgomeryCity & Thayer
- Highway 5 between Versailles and Gainesville
- Highway 142 between Doniphan and Bakersfield
- Highway 72 between Cape Girardeau and Rolla
- Highway 63 between Kingdom City and Thayer
- I-44 between Eureka and Rolla
- Highway 50 between Eureka and Jefferson City
- Highway 60 between Poplar Bluff and Springfield
According to the Missouri Conservation, “Redbud trees blossom first, sending out rose-purple clusters as soon as late March. Dogwood blossoming normally peaks in mid-April near the Arkansas border and two to three weeks later in northern counties.”
Happy riding and Keep the Shiny Side up!
